This week you will incorporate your drawings into a framework, creating a piece of moving art....kinetic art. You will share your finished work with the class.
Discussion 2
Research one artist who specializes in kinetic art.
1. Holding Drawing 1 vertically. Turn the drawing over so that the back is facing you. It should be blank.
2. Take your ruler and measure down 1" from the top edge of the paper.
3. Draw a line horizontally across from the left edge of the paper to the right edge of the paper.
4. Continue measuring down 1" from the line you just drew and draw another horizontal line across.
5. Continue drawing lines across the paper spaced 1" apart as you progress down the paper. When you get to the bottom of the paper, you should have 11 lines and 12 spaces. 6. For the other two drawings, follow steps 1-5. 7. Number each strip from 1 to 12 on the back of Drawing 1.
8. Number each strip from 13 to 24 on the back of Drawing 2. 9. Number each strip from 25 to 36 on the back of Drawing 3.
Put the three drawings aside for now.
Day 2
You may follow along with the video above or follow the instructions below: 1. Take the 4th sheet of drawing paper, which should be blank, and hold horizontally. 2. Measure 1" from the right edge, just as you had done yesterday with the three drawings. 3. Draw a line down the paper from the top edge to the bottom edge. 4. Continue across the paper, making sure that the lines are 1" apart. 5. Fold the paper on the lines. 6. Remember when you made fans when you were a kid? Well, make folds using the lines as a guide so that the paper is like a fan. 7. From the left to the right, number the spaces 1,2,3,1,2,3,1,2,3. Continue number each space in that pattern. 8. Follow steps 1-6 for the 5th drawing paper. 9. From the left to the right, number the spaces starting with 3,1,2,3,1,2,3,1,2. Continue numbering ending with the number 3. 8. With your glue stick, glue the #3s at the bottom of sheet 4 to the #3 at the top of sheet 5.
Day 3
1. You are still working with sheet 4/5. Each space was numbered yesterday -- 1,2,3,1,2,3,1,2,3 on sheet 4; and 3,1,2,3,1,2,3,1,2 on sheet 5. 2. Glue each #3 at the bottom of sheet 4 and #3 at the top of sheet 5 together. Note that the #3s will be the space or "valley" between each peak. 3. Feel free to follow the same instructions on the video above.
You will need your three drawings for the next step. 4. Take Drawing 1. Cut along the lines that you made on the back with your scissors. You will have 12 strips, numbered 1 through 12. 5. Take the strips and place them in order, 1 through 12. Very carefully turn each strip over to the side with your drawing facing you. Your drawing should look like it originally did except that it is in strips. 6. Place sheet 4/5 (with the peaks and valleys) in front of you, horizontally. Peak #1 should be on the left side. 7. Take each strip of your drawing and, in order, glue the strips to side #1 only of sheet 4/5.
Day 4
1. Repeat step 4, day 3, for Drawing 2. Note that the strips are numbered 13 through 24. 2. Peak #2 on sheet 4/5 should be on the right side. 3. Take each strip of your drawing and, in order, glue the strips to side #2 only of sheet 4/5.
4. Repeat step 4, day 3, for Drawing 3. Note that the strips are numbered 25 through 36. 5. The space between peaks or valley is #3. 6. Take each strip of your drawing and, in order, glue the strips to side #3 only of sheet 4/5. 7. You will have excess peaks and valleys after you have glued all of your strips. No problem, don't worry. Just cut them off. 8. Glue the bottom of your completed sheet 4/5 to the sheet of construction paper.
Day 5
1. Holding your camera, webcam, or cell phone at approx. a 45 degree angle, photograph your work from three angles -- right, left, and center. 2. POST a copy of your pictures to your blog and send a copy to ArtElective.2@RELCII.com by 11:59 pm, Week 2, Day 7.
You have done a great job! You are now ready for Art Elective Series 3: Tessellations.
